Liverpool Sets Two Conditions for Slot's Dismissal
Sunday 15-02-2026
The English club Liverpool has set two new conditions for the dismissal of Arne Slot and the hiring of Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, to succeed the Dutchman in leading the team next season, amid the team's declining results this season.

Liverpool is experiencing a modest season under Slot's leadership, with results and performances declining, especially in the first half of the current season, which has opened the door to speculations about the future of the coaching staff. Alonso's name has been linked with the possibility of taking over the role, following his official dismissal from coaching Real Madrid after losing the Spanish Super Cup title to Barcelona.

According to journalist Nicolo Schira on his account on the platform 'X', Liverpool will move to change the coach if they fail to qualify for the Champions League in the 2026/2027 season or fail to achieve any title this season. Schira added that Alonso is still highly regarded by the English club's board and could become a potential replacement for Slot in the near future.

Alonso had previously rejected an offer from Liverpool in 2024 to succeed Jurgen Klopp, preferring to continue with Bayer Leverkusen after leading them to win the Bundesliga title without any losses.

Liverpool is currently in sixth place in the English Premier League standings with 42 points, 3 points behind Manchester United, who are in fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League.
