Slot: These Are Our Priorities This Season, and I've Changed My Mind About Set Pieces
Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, confirmed that his team has three main priorities this season, foremost of which is winning the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool is preparing to face Brighton tomorrow, Saturday, at 10 PM at Anfield, as part of the fourth round of the FA Cup.
In the press conference for the match, Slot stated: "Where does the priority lie? We have 3 clear priorities: winning the FA Cup, qualifying for the Champions League next season, and winning the Champions League this season."
He added: "We are aware of the limited options, so managing the workload is very important. The last thing we need is any player getting injured, so making the best decision every time is always a challenge for the manager."
He continued: "This won't be the first time a player gets injured if he has to play 3 matches out of 7. The important thing is that we train today, listen to the players, see how they feel, and make the best decisions."
Slot pointed out the strength of facing Brighton: "This isn't the first time we've played three matches in seven days, it's part of being a big club. Tomorrow we will face the strong Brighton team, and they don't deserve their current position in the Premier League this season. They play better than their ranking shows, so it's another challenge for us."
Regarding his lineup, he explained: "I took a long time before I could sleep because I was constantly thinking about the same options, which players participate, and in which positions, so I need another 24 hours."
About Endo's injury, he said: "We still need to assess his condition, but it is clear he will be absent for a long time. He plays in defense and midfield, and we have a shortage in these positions."
He added about young players: "I always monitor young players, as some of them are getting closer to playing with the first team. Matches like these might be a suitable option to involve some of them, but it's about achieving the right balance."
On the importance of set pieces, Slot said: "Initially, I completely rejected them, but look at where the league has reached. I cannot deny their importance, yes, their importance has become very clear now."
