Amrabat Finally Undergoes Surgery After a Long Wait
Real Betis Club announced that their Moroccan player Sofyan Amrabat has undergone surgery, after it was postponed in the past period due to his participation with his national team in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The surgical intervention was initially scheduled for an earlier time, but it was postponed multiple times until the player entered the operating room on Tuesday.
The Andalusian club explained in an official statement that Sofyan Amrabat underwent the operation in the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands, under the supervision of Dr. Gino Kerkhoffs and in the presence of Real Betis's medical staff. The surgery involved cleaning the right ankle joint, and the player is to spend the initial recovery phase after the operation in Amsterdam before continuing his treatment program in the city of Seville.
The Moroccan midfielder's injury dates back to an unintended collision with his teammate Isco about two months ago, which caused him to suffer pain in the ankle. At the time, there were rumors about his quick return to participate in the derby match, but that did not happen, and the player later decided to represent his national team in the continental tournament.
Amrabat participated in the first two matches of the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as part of the quarter-final match, before the injury prevented him from continuing in the competition. Despite this, he preferred to stay with the team until the final match, which the Moroccan team lost to Senegal, before later returning to undergo the surgery and start the recovery phase.
