Frimpong: Facing Qarabag Will Be Difficult, and Liverpool Has Become the Villain
Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong, a player for Liverpool, spoke during a press conference about the upcoming match against Qarabag, part of the eighth and final round of the league stage in the UEFA Champions League for the 2025/2026 season, which will be held at Anfield.
Frimpong said: "I feel extremely happy, I'm from Manchester, so returning to the UK is really great, and playing for a club as big as Liverpool is a huge honor. Everyone wishes to participate in the Champions League, and we will do our utmost."
He added: "In football, things sometimes go as we wish and sometimes they don't. We give our best in every match, and sometimes luck isn't on our side. We are in a good position in the Champions League, and if we win tomorrow, we will qualify for the Round of 16, and we are still competing in the FA Cup and the Champions League."
He continued: "I feel completely comfortable in one-on-one situations, I know my abilities well and believe in them. If I face a packed defense, it must be penetrated one way or another. The Premier League is the best ever. It's true that the Bundesliga is one of the best leagues, but the difference is significant, playing here is more physically demanding and more challenging, it's completely different."
Frimpong explained why Liverpool is targeted, saying: "Liverpool is the titleholder, and everyone wishes to defeat us, that's natural. When you are a champion, you become the villain, similar to what happened with Bayer Leverkusen last season."
Regarding the recent loss to Bournemouth, he said: "Responding to a loss is difficult and very annoying, especially because of the goal and the throw-in in the last moments. You feel angry that day, but the next day you focus on the upcoming match. My teammates and I are fully focused on facing Qarabag."
He concluded his talk about his previous memories against Qarabag when he was a player at Leverkusen, saying: "The match was like a roller coaster ride, I think we were down by two or three goals and then came back in the result. I know how strong they are, they are a Champions League level team, and the challenge won't be easy, we have to be ready and prepared."
