Van Dijk: We Feel Disappointed, and This is What We Miss
Saturday 24-01-2026
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk appeared in press statements following the 3-2 loss to Bournemouth in the 23rd round of the English Premier League at Vitality Stadium.

The Dutch defender said: "I am very disappointed. Conceding a goal in the last moment is very hard to accept. We worked very hard in the second half to get back into the game, but conceding a late goal in this manner is disappointing."

Regarding his appearance after Bournemouth's late goal protesting to the referee, he explained: "What I felt on the pitch is that I was fouled, but the referee and VAR did not consider it. I can stand here and say that the goal should not have been counted, but it was counted in the end, and that is the reality."

On Bournemouth scoring two goals in seven minutes: "The first goal was difficult to assess, the wind was strong and confusing, so it wasn't easy. Conceding a goal like that isn't the problem in itself, but it's not good. However, conceding two goals in a short period is completely unacceptable. Our goal before the end of the first half was very important to give us momentum in the second half, in the end, that throw-in cost us the match."

On who is responsible for the loss: "After any match or crucial moment, it's easy to say this player should have done this, and that player should have done that, and I know that will happen. But we decided to keep the ball, and in the end, they got it, losing is never good, especially when you're a Liverpool player. This season we lack consistency, and we are trying to find it."

He concluded: "I don't think there's any doubt about our cohesion as a team, but the consistency we are looking for is still missing. This is something we have to deal with, we want to perform well, and we want to win matches."
