Salah: Football is Tough, and We Were Exhausted
Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared in a press statement following the 3-2 loss against Bournemouth in the 23rd round of the English Premier League, at the Vitality Stadium.
The coach said in his statement: "Football is harsh when you lose in extra time after coming back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime."
He added: "I believe there were only 5 to 10 minutes in the first half where we weren't in complete control. We played well in some moments, but we conceded two goals and had a player sent off, which of course doesn't help."
He continued: "I had a feeling that if we could reduce the score to 2-1, we would have fully returned to the atmosphere of the match. Many times we reached promising areas, and despite being down 2-0, I felt we would score and get back into the game."
He explained, "It is fair to say that the last ten minutes were more open, but I noticed signs of fatigue on my players, especially since we only had two days of rest between each match."
Regarding the timing of the goals, he said: "Those were the best ten minutes for Bournemouth in the match."
He concluded by saying, "Often, the same limited number of players participate in the matches, and it's safe to say they were very exhausted. I can't blame them for that, especially when facing a strong and high-intensity team like Bournemouth."
