Saudi Federation Aims to Increase Number of Foreign Players Next Season
A media report revealed features of a new direction within the corridors of the Saudi Roshan League, aiming to increase the number of foreign players participating in the upcoming 2026-2027 season.
The media personality Abdulrahman Al-Humaidi, presenter of the program "Nadina" on MBC channel, clarified that over 90% indicate the adoption of allowing 10 foreign players to participate instead of 8.
Al-Humaidi confirmed that the proposed format includes registering 8 foreign players without age restrictions, in addition to two players from the birth category with extended contracts.
He pointed out that if the decision is officially adopted, it will be implemented starting from the next season as part of a plan aimed at enhancing the level of technical competition in the Saudi Roshan League.
Sami Al-Jaber, the former Al-Hilal star, criticized the new direction, describing the increase in the number of foreign players as a bold step, but one that might be uncalculated in its consequences.
Al-Jaber stated that the decision could "kill" opportunities for Saudi players due to the crowding of foreign players in key positions within the teams.
He added that this congestion had previously negatively impacted the level of local players, which in turn affected the performance of the Saudi national team, calling for a comprehensive study before making a decision.
