FIFA: Trump to Present World Cup to the Champion
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will present the World Cup to the champion of the next edition, following the final match of the 2026 World Cup.
This was revealed during a discussion session dedicated to the 2026 World Cup on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Infantino explained that the champion's coronation ceremony will be held on July 19 at East Rutherford Stadium in the United States. Although he did not mention Trump by name, he indicated that the head of the host state would participate in presenting the golden cup.
It is still unclear the extent of participation of the leaders of the other two host countries, Canada and Mexico, in the coronation ceremony, knowing that the presence of heads of state during the cup presentation ceremonies is a tradition followed in World Cup tournaments.
Infantino maintains a close relationship with Donald Trump, as he previously awarded him the FIFA Peace Award during the group stage draw held in Washington last December, a move that sparked a wave of criticism and ridicule internationally.
