Liverpool Coach: We Delivered an Outstanding Performance Despite the Difficult Match
Thursday 22-01-2026
Liverpool's coach, Arne Slot, appeared in a press conference after the team's 3-0 victory over Marseille in the Champions League group stage. The match took place at the Velodrome Stadium.

The coach said in his talk: "This match could have been difficult, and indeed it was, not only because of their fans but also because of their players and coach. We had to deliver an outstanding performance today, and we did. We could have done better in counter-attacks. We were very positive in ball possession. We scored three goals, and everyone will be more optimistic now compared to when we create five chances and score only one goal."

He added, "In the last 13 matches where we haven't faced defeat, we were only behind in the score for 54 minutes. We had many early opportunities to win today, and perhaps we deserved what we got today. We weren't as unlucky as we have been in many matches this season."

He emphasized, "I know the reason for the inconsistency in our performance, and it is mainly because an open game is completely different from playing against a team that relies on a compact defense. You can't compare that to tonight's match where both teams sought to press and play from the back. If our performance is inconsistent, it's because we struggle against teams that rely on a compact defense."

Regarding the possibility of avoiding playoff matches, he concluded: "Everyone can see the quality of our team. We have three injured players, and our team isn't as large as our competitors', so it's important that we don't have to play these matches."
