Rossiniore: Enzo Fernandez's Departure Is Just Speculation, and Winning the Champions League Is Not Just a Dream
Tuesday 20-01-2026
Liam Rossiniore, the head coach of English club Chelsea, expressed his confidence in his team ahead of their match against Cypriot side Pafos, as part of the seventh round of the group stage in the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League. He emphasized that winning the continental title is not just a dream, and commented on the status of Enzo Fernandez as well as several important matters within the team.

Chelsea will host Pafos tomorrow evening, Wednesday, at Stamford Bridge, in a match where the Blues aim to strengthen their position in the competition.

Rossinyol said: "Enzo Fernandez was sick yesterday and missed training, and there were signs of that during the match. Fortunately, Estevao returned to participate, Gittens came back, and Malo Gusto rejoined the squad."

He added: "Your dream, whether as a player or a coach, is to be at the pinnacle of football, and the Champions League is a sign of that. It's not about me; my focus is on winning the match and achieving success here."

Regarding the rumors about Jacquet's transfer to Chelsea, he said: "You know, I don't talk about players from other clubs until an agreement is reached with the player. I consider that to be very disrespectful."

He continued: "My decision regarding Axel Disasi came after I had a very good meeting with him a few days ago. I told the players when I arrived that it was a new chapter for everyone, so it was right for me to talk with him."

He continued: "Disasi is behind in terms of physical fitness and match readiness, and we will work with him on that. We are currently in talks with Raheem about various matters related to his career. We hope things will become clearer in the next couple of days."

Regarding the injuries, he explained: "Unfortunately, for Toussin, there is an issue with the hamstring muscle that will keep him out of participation for the next few weeks."

He continued: "I was very happy, not only with the development of Liam Delap, but also with many players I have worked with throughout my career. I always keep track of the players I have worked with."

He added, "It was really great to see Liam playing at the level I know he is capable of in the Premier League. It was no surprise that he ended up here. I will continue to push and motivate him to keep improving."

Regarding Enzo Fernandez's potential departure, he commented: "That doesn't mean anything to me. When you are a world-class player, there will always be speculations beyond your control. Enzo was truly outstanding during the time I worked with him."

He added, "Enzo was sick on Saturday, yet the way he covered the pitch surprised me. He is a Chelsea player, and I hope we have a successful working relationship both in the short and long term."

He spoke about the team's situation in the Champions League, saying: "Avoiding the Champions League playoff round would be ideal, and it would be great. When you come in as a new coach, you want those extra days for training and work."

He pointed to Chelsea's continental ambitions: "I took over mid-season, and there is a possibility of winning the Champions League. It's wonderful. We hope luck will be on our side in the third attempt, but you can't rely on luck to win the Champions League. I never limit my players' ambitions. We have to focus on this match."

He concluded his statements by saying: "Did Mamadou Sarr win the Africa Cup of Nations? First of all, congratulations to Mamadou. It is a great honor to win a continental championship. He is currently not one of my players, but I have a lot of respect for Strasbourg club."
