Stellini: The Crisis of Crises Pressures the Team, and We Need New Stars
Saturday 17-01-2026
Christian Stellini, assistant coach of Napoli, expressed his deep concern over the team's injury crisis, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen the squad with new players, especially following the recent injuries to Matteo Politano and Amir Rrahmani.

Stellini explained that Napoli is under intense pressure after three consecutive draws against Verona, Inter Milan, and Parma, which has caused the team to drop in the Serie A standings and fall behind the top of the table.

Stellini said: "Elif Elmas felt dizzy, possibly due to flu symptoms, so it wasn't an injury. However, we will conduct evaluations for Politano and Rahmani in the coming days."

He added: "We feel happy about the victory, thanks to a team that continues to play under difficult conditions, but we don't know how long we can keep going like this. We don't have many players left, and the match schedule is packed."

He continued: "I believe Napoli is the only team playing nine matches in January. The schedule was poorly arranged; we cannot have nine matches within 28 days along with the Italian Super Cup."

Stellini emphasized the difficulty of the tight match schedule: "The players are mentally fully prepared, they suffer, fight, and perform well. From a purely physical standpoint, it is difficult to play with only 72 hours between each match."

He added, "We don't have many players, so we definitely need to discuss this matter with the club. We might need new players to secure victories. If some players aren't being used, there's a reason for that. We need to strengthen our numbers; otherwise, we'll have to rely on the youth academy."

He explained: "We have enough in defense, but in midfield and attack, there is no rotation. We are waiting for David Neres to return soon, but we don't know when the others will come back."

Stellini concluded his remarks by emphasizing the magnitude of the upcoming challenges: "We know that the January transfer market is not easy, but there are some interventions that need to be made. There are very important matches next week; we risk being eliminated from the Champions League if we don't win away against Copenhagen, and then we will face Juventus, led by Luciano Spalletti, in the Italian league."
