Argentinian Cristian Romero, captain of Tottenham Hotspur, sparked widespread controversy after a cryptic post on social media that seemed to directly criticize the club's management, before he later edited it.

Sky Sports reported that Romero posted his message following Tottenham's 3-2 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League, a defeat that left the team in 14th place in the standings.

The defender wrote in his post: "At times like these, there should be other people who come forward to speak, but they don't, as has been the case for several years. They only appear when things are going well, to tell some lies."

According to the same source, Romero later deleted the phrase "to tell some lies" from the post, which had received support from several of his teammates, including Richarlison and Pedro Porro.
