Conte: This Only Happens to Me in Italy, and We Must Keep Moving Forward
Thursday 08-01-2026
Napoli coach Antonio Conte appeared in a press statement following the 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona in the nineteenth round of the Italian league, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

The coach said in his speech: "There is no disappointment, only. These are matches you might risk losing. There were two negative situations against us that we could have handled better."

Regarding the awarding of a penalty in favor of Hellas Verona: "The decision to award the penalty was a strange judgment, but we accept it."

He emphasized: "These two negative moments would have been enough to kill any team, but the players responded well. As for Højlund, honestly, I don't know where he's supposed to put his arm. What is he supposed to do? Should he cut it off? It becomes difficult like this, but we keep moving forward."

Speaking about the upcoming match against Inter, Conte downplayed the importance of discussing the favorites to win, saying, "I don't care to get into that. If I say something, it causes controversy."

He added: "We know we will face a very strong team that has reached the UEFA Champions League final twice in two years. We will go with determination and the desire to give our all."

Conte also defended his recent statements in which he praised Inter, Milan, and Juventus, affirming: "I didn't say anything strange. All I did was pay tribute to Inter, Milan, Juventus, and their history."

He concluded: "If I talk about arbitration, all hell breaks loose, but when others talk about it, nothing happens. I understand that I am a media personality, but this only happens to me in Italy."
