Roma Considers Ending Bailey's Loan and Returning Him to Aston Villa
Tuesday 06-01-2026
Italian club Roma has started studying the possibility of ending Leon Bailey's loan early, due to dissatisfaction with the player's performance since joining from Aston Villa during last summer's transfer window.

According to Calcio Mercato, Roma's management is unhappy with Bailey's output this season, after he participated in only 181 minutes in Serie A, spread over seven matches, one of which was as a starter, without scoring or assisting any goals.

Bailey's start with the team faced significant difficulties, as he suffered a thigh muscle injury during his first training session, sidelining him for about two months, before returning and later enduring two additional periods in the treatment room, which clearly affected his continuity and readiness.

This approach comes at a time when Roma is seeking attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window, having been linked with several names, which may push the club to let go of some current players to free up space in the squad.

The same source explained that ending the loan will not be easy, due to the absence of a clause allowing contract termination or player recall, in addition to Aston Villa not welcoming Bailey's return in January, making the matter conditional on the presence of a third club willing to submit a new loan offer for the 28-year-old player.
