Al-Zawraa club and the Iraqi Olympic team goalkeeper Hussein Hassan has entered the circle of controversy following recent developments related to the national team's roster participating in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The coach of the Iraqi Olympic team, Emad Mohammed, announced the final squad that will compete in the tournament, which included several players from Al-Zawraa club, among them goalkeeper Hussein Hassan, as part of the technical staff's effort to rely on ready players who possess sufficient experience and the ability to compete.

On the other hand, the administrative board of Al-Zawraa club issued an official statement a few days ago, confirming its refusal to release its players to the Olympic team, justifying this by the Iraqi Stars League competition schedule and the pressure of match fixtures, in addition to the team's need for its players' services during this sensitive stage of the season.

Despite the clear stance of the administration, goalkeeper Hussein Hassan joined the Olympic team's camp without the knowledge or approval of Al-Zawraa club's management, which opened the door to questions about his future with the team and the possibility of facing disciplinary sanctions in the upcoming period.

In this context, Al-Zawraa club's administrative board member Laith Hussein clarified that the club's management will handle the matter according to internal regulations, stressing that discipline and adherence to management decisions represent a red line within the club, especially given the strong competition the team is engaged in within the league.
