Wirtz: We Are in a Difficult Position, and I Would Have Preferred Winning Over Scoring
Tuesday 06-01-2026
Florian Wirtz, Liverpool's midfielder, spoke after his team drew 2-2 with Fulham at Craven Cottage in the 20th round of the Premier League, expressing his disappointment with the result.

Wirtz said, "I am not satisfied at all; we need the points, and we were hoping to secure a win today."

He added: "We know that there is no easy match in this tournament. Our performance in the second half was much better. We didn't press them well in the first half, but we improved significantly in the second half."

Regarding his goal, the player explained: "I was sure it was offside, so I didn't even celebrate. I was happy to score the goal, but I prefer to get the three points."

He continued: "All I can say is that it was an amazing shot, impossible to save. Usually, the ball doesn't go into the goal like that. Our decisions before the goal could have been better; I'm not sure. It came from a throw-in, so we need to be better."

He concluded his speech by saying: "Once again, we are in a difficult position because we have drawn twice; this is not what we want. We want more. We need to improve, but things are still developing."
