Spalletti: This Is What We Need, and We Want to Win the Upcoming Matches
Saturday 03-01-2026
Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of Juventus, confirmed that his team delivered a strong overall performance despite settling for a 1-1 draw against Lecce. At the same time, he emphasized his full support for his player Jonathan David following the missed penalty.

The coach said: "We need to improve our decision-making inside the box. We delivered the ball to dangerous areas several times in both the first and second halves, but we failed in the final touch. This is the area where we need to develop."

Despite dropping two points at home, the Juventus coach was keen to highlight the positive aspects of the performance, adding: "We played a good match, actually a very good one. The result always makes a difference, but there was a clear improvement in our level."

Regarding the missed penalty, Spalletti strongly defended his player Jonathan David, refusing to place the blame on him or stir controversy over who should have taken the shot. He said, "David is a penalty taker and knows how to execute them. He made the right decision by shooting down the middle, but he didn’t lift the ball enough."

He also pointed out that there are multiple options within the team for taking penalty kicks, explaining: "Locatelli is a penalty taker, and so is Yildiz. These decisions are made in the moment, amid the atmosphere and pressure of the match, not as it might seem from the outside."

In conclusion, Spalletti emphasized the need to quickly move past the match and focus on what lies ahead, saying: "This game is over; we didn't win, we drew. But if we continue playing like this, we will achieve many victories. Now we must ensure wins in the upcoming matches."
