Barcelona Awaits Developments on the Future of Las Palmas Defender
Saturday 03-01-2026
Barcelona is keeping an eye on the situation of defender Mika Marmol as the winter transfer window opens, amid increasing offers for him and his imminent departure from Las Palmas, while the Catalan club owns 50% of his economic rights.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the clubs Osasuna, Mallorca, Girona, and Celta Vigo are the most interested in signing Marmol, who is under contract with Las Palmas until June 2026, which includes a release clause of 10 million euros, an amount currently considered high for a defender whose contract ends at the end of the season.

The newspaper indicated that Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez has acknowledged the difficulty of renewing the player's contract, confirming that his departure has become almost inevitable due to interest from bigger clubs that the Canary club cannot compete with, after previously rejecting offers in January 2025 and last summer.

Marmol is a key element in coach Luis Garcia's lineup and joined Las Palmas in the summer of 2023 coming from Andorra, after the club acquired 50% of his economic rights, with Barcelona retaining the remaining percentage, giving the latter an opportunity to financially benefit from any potential transfer.

Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Mika Marmol's name appears at a sensitive time for Barcelona, which is searching for a left-sided center-back, especially since the player previously represented Barcelona Atlètic between 2019 and 2022 and succeeded in making his first appearance in La Liga with the first team, making him a viable low-cost option, without this meaning there is any official move currently, amid Hans Flick's confirmation that the club will not make uncalculated signings.
