Allegri: Playing for Milan Is Not Easy, and It Is Too Early to Talk About the Title
Wednesday 07-01-2026
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri appeared in a press conference after the 1-0 victory over Cagliari in the eighteenth round of the Italian league, held at the Sardegna Arena.

The coach said: "When Leao plays on the left side, he can sometimes lose focus during the match. He has the qualities that enable him to shine in central areas, but he was not at full readiness today and did not attack the spaces properly in the first half. Nevertheless, he has scored six goals in the league this season despite missing several matches due to injury."

He added: "In the first few minutes, we allowed three shots on goal, and I was worried, but as time passed, we got into the rhythm of the match. The pitch was slippery, and the passes were not accurate, but in the second half, Cagliari lost their intensity, and we increased our pace. We should have scored a second goal."

He emphasized: "Playing for Milan is not easy. De Winter, Bartesaghi, Stupinan, Tomori, and others are improving physically and technically. They are learning to defend more calmly and read situations better without rushing. De Winter excellently cleared two dangerous balls with his head."

The match also witnessed the debut of striker Nicklas Volekrog just hours after completing his loan from West Ham United, as he participated in the last twenty minutes and almost assisted a goal when he sent Pulisic facing goalkeeper Elia Caprile.

He continued: "It is too early to talk about the title, as five teams are separated by three or four points. This win was important, as was keeping a clean sheet after a series of matches in which we conceded goals."

He concluded his speech by saying: "We must continue working. We know the road is difficult, but the team's spirit is good, and even when mistakes happen, we play as one unit. We have another match on Thursday against Genoa, a tough opponent, and we will continue to work with great enthusiasm."
