Marc Bernal: Flick's New Weapon in 2026
Thursday 01-01-2026
The technical staff of FC Barcelona, led by Hans Flick, clarified that the return of young player Marc Bernal will be gradual and carefully planned, in order to gradually strengthen his role within the team as he gains the necessary confidence and rhythm, according to the Spanish newspaper "Sport."

The newspaper confirmed that the return plan was not rushed, especially after Bernal's ACL injury and cartilage problems. Flick and the coaching staff preferred to reintroduce him gradually to avoid competitive pressure during the first few months. However, the early matches of the season did not offer many opportunities for the player, which limited his participation initially.

The player made his first start on November 29 against Alavés, playing 45 minutes during which he demonstrated clear physical quality and character. This was followed by occasional appearances against Betis, Guadalajara, and Villarreal, closing the year with positive performances.

The newspaper explained that Flick aims to increase Bernal's role between January and February as many matches kick off in the league, the cup, the super cup, and the Champions League. This would make him a viable option for rotation in the midfield and defense, especially with some players absent and the team needing to give Eric Garcia some rest periods.

The newspaper confirmed that Bernal is considered a long-term project for the team and is one of the key components of Barcelona's future. His return will be handled with caution to ensure the continuity of his development and impact on the field.
