Slot: Ready to Face Leeds United, Defensive Changes Need Time to Adapt
Dutch coach Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool, spoke about his team's preparations to face Leeds United in the nineteenth round of the English Premier League, scheduled for next Thursday evening. Liverpool currently occupies fourth place with 32 points, while Leeds is in sixteenth place with 20 points.
Regarding the team's readiness, Slot said: "Our players are ready to face Leeds United, and we are prepared for this Premier League match."
About signing a right and left back in the summer: "We had to make one change in this position because Arnold left, and that was not ideal for me, as he was very important to the club and to me last season. When studying the options in the market, Jeremy was one of the first names that caught our attention, as well as Kirkiz in the left-back position. Certainly, having them helps us."
Regarding continuing signings in the winter: "When you add players to what you have, there is a real chance to improve. But when you replace as we did in the summer, it takes time. Unfortunately, we will not see Giovanni Lo Celso this season, and Isaac will take a long time before his return."
On improving match management: "One way to manage the game is to have substitution options, like bringing in an additional defender. Last season, when we were leading, I used to bring on Wataru Endo. We miss a large number of players, so what the available players currently offer is very special to achieve these results."
About repeating an exciting match against Leeds: "I can endure it, but I do not prefer to live another day like that. This is part of football; we have ups and downs and we have to accept them. What I concluded is that we suffered a lot."
Regarding substituting Florian Wirtz in the last match: "I did not take him out because he played badly, but because he was barely able to keep running. This shows the magnitude of the step required to adapt to the levels of intensity and pressure."
