Pjanić Officially Announces Retirement from Playing
Wednesday 31-12-2025
Former Bosnian international midfielder Miralem Pjanić has officially announced his retirement from football at the age of 35, ending a long professional career.

This announcement came in an emotional statement, where he confirmed that he will no longer play and that his top priority now is to enjoy his role as a father. Pjanić left his last club, Russian side CSKA Moscow, in June 2023.

Pjanić began his professional career in France with Metz, after growing up in Luxembourg, then moved to Olympique Lyonnais in 2008, where he emerged as one of the promising talents.

In 2011, he transferred to the Italian league through Roma, where he spent five years becoming one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

His most prominent stop was with Juventus between 2016 and 2020, where he won four consecutive Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia trophies. Afterwards, he had a brief stint with Barcelona in Spain, which included a loan period at Turkish club Beşiktaş, before concluding his career in the UAE with Sharjah and then Russia with CSKA Moscow.

On the international level, Pjanić decided to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina, his country of origin, instead of Luxembourg, which he represented at youth levels, making his debut in 2008. He earned 115 international caps for his country, scoring 18 goals, and was a key part of the team that participated in Bosnia’s first major tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He retired from international football in 2024.

Throughout his career, Pjanić received numerous individual awards and team titles, including being selected for the Serie A Team of the Season for several consecutive years. He was distinguished by his exceptional ability to take direct free kicks and his sharp vision in midfield.
