Why Does the Ake Deal Seem Difficult for Barcelona?
Tuesday 30-12-2025
The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo revealed that the departure of Nathan Ake, Manchester City's defender, may be difficult during the winter transfer window, despite Barcelona's strong interest in strengthening their defense with an experienced left-sided center-back.

The newspaper explained that Barcelona is monitoring the market in search of financially suitable options to compensate for the absence of Andreas Christensen, while awaiting developments regarding Ronald Araújo's situation. Ake is among the names under consideration due to his reduced role with Pep Guardiola this season and his desire for more playing time in preparation for the World Cup.

The newspaper added that the deal is not easy, as Ake is tied to a contract with City until June 2027 and earns a high salary, making a loan move difficult. Meanwhile, the English club prefers to sell the player for 15 to 20 million euros, an amount that may exceed Barcelona's current capacity to complete the deal, considering salary cap constraints.

The newspaper pointed out that Ake has offers from other English Premier League clubs, but he remains among Barcelona's priorities within their strategy to find an experienced left-sided defender capable of delivering immediate performance, which matches the ideal profile the Catalan club is seeking for the deal.
