Nigerian Coach Aliyu Zubairu: I Played to Win Despite Knowing the Size and Strength of Al Ahly
Nigerian coach Aliyu Zubairu, head of the Egyptian Telecom team, expressed his happiness after the victory over Al Ahly in the Egypt Cup.
The Telecom Egypt team defeated Al Ahly 2-1 in the Round of 32 of the Egypt Cup on Saturday evening, advancing Telecom Egypt to the Round of 16 in the tournament.
Zubero said in statements to the media center of the Egyptian Telecommunications Club: "I played to win despite knowing the size and strength of Al-Ahly, which is missing several of its international players. I closely followed the team's recent matches and prepared the appropriate strategy accordingly."
He continued: "I commend the players' courageous performance throughout the match; they rose to the occasion and managed to achieve a historic victory against a world-class team."
He added: "Since my arrival in Egypt, I have received full support and assistance from everyone, and all the team's needs are available."
He continued: "I told Mostafa Fawzi, the scorer of the two goals, to try to score and have confidence in himself, even if he only played for 5 minutes."
He concluded: "We did not dwell much on the celebrations of the victory over Al Ahly, as the main goal is to qualify for the Premier League."
