Sunday 28-12-2025
Luka Zidane, goalkeeper of the Algerian national team, expressed his great happiness with the wide victory achieved by "The Greens" over the Sudanese team by three goals to nil, in the first round of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations currently held in Morocco.

Zidane confirmed, in statements after the match, that the most important thing for him was to achieve the required objective at the start of the journey, pointing out that the team succeeded in delivering a good match, especially during the second half, hoping that the performance pleased the Algerian fans.

The son of the legend Zinedine Zidane explained that the team spirit was the most prominent factor in this victory, stressing that the interest of the team comes before any individual consideration, and expressing his hope that his family is proud of what he presented, just like the Algerian fans.

Riyad Mahrez scored the first and second goals for the team in the 2nd and 61st minutes, while substitute Ibrahim Maza added the third goal in the 86th minute, which was the 100th goal in the history of the Algerian national team's participations in the Africa Cup of Nations.

With this victory, the Algerian national team collected the first three points in Group E, which also witnessed Burkina Faso's win over Equatorial Guinea by two goals to one, within the same round's competitions.

This is the first victory for the Algerian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations since their championship title in 2019 in Egypt, after a series of negative results in the 2021 and 2023 editions.

The match was attended by Zinedine Zidane, the former French star and former Real Madrid coach, who watched the game from the stands of Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, to support his son Luka Zidane in his first appearance in the Algeria jersey at the Africa Cup of Nations.

It is worth mentioning that Luka Zidane, 27 years old, previously progressed through France's youth national teams before embarking on his international experience with the Algerian national team. He also participated in previous matches during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and began his football career at the Real Madrid academy before moving between several Spanish clubs, reaching Granada club.
