The Saudi Football Federation Decides to Maintain the Homegrown Player System During the Winter Transfer Window
The Saudi Football Federation has decided to maintain the current system for homegrown players without any changes during the upcoming winter transfer window, which opens on January 5 and runs until February 2, as part of the player registration regulations in the Roshn Saudi League.
According to the Saudi newspaper "Al-Riyadiyah," the Al-Ittihad management has decided not to make any changes to the birthright player system that has been in place since the summer of 2024, despite earlier discussions with Roshn League clubs about the possibility of modifying it.
Representatives of the General Secretariat of the Football Association, along with members of the Professionalism and Players' Status Committee and the Competitions Committee, held a meeting last August with representatives of the 18 clubs to discuss the system, following an urgent letter requesting a vote on whether to continue with the current mechanism or to make amendments to it.
It is worth mentioning that the Board of Directors of the Saudi Federation approved, in June 2024, regulations for registering non-Saudi players under the age of 21. The Professionalism Committee set three conditions, the most notable being the allowance for current players born under this category to continue even if they exceed the specified age, provided they are not replaced. However, the age requirement must be strictly followed when registering any new player during the summer or winter transfer windows.
