Gasperini: We lack something against the big teams, and we must focus on building the future
Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of Roma, admitted that his team is struggling in major matches this season, while also expressing his confidence in the current project and its ability to build a strong future, following the loss to Juventus in the Italian league.
Gasperini said that his team lost many passes in the attacking third, and he continued, explaining: "If we had been more accurate in passing, we would have had all the elements to create more chances. By the end of the match, we had more energy, but we lacked decisiveness."
He added: "I would like to commend the performance of several substitute players who faced a very strong team like Juventus."
The Roma coach continued, expressing his confidence in his team, saying: "Roma should leave this match feeling optimistic because we have a strong foundation to build an outstanding team. I am convinced that we are capable of doing good work in the coming period, especially with the players who participated despite their lack of experience."
Gasperini also addressed the absences and difficult circumstances the team faced, saying: "We faced players who have speed and the ability to exploit spaces, and although we conceded a goal at the end of the first half, we allowed very little before that."
He added: "After falling behind in the score, Juventus found more space, but the overall performance was good."
Regarding the setbacks against the top teams, Gasperini added: "It's true that we lost several direct encounters, which clearly means that we are missing something compared to these clubs."
The Roma coach concluded his statements by saying: "We started this project just a few months ago, and we must focus on building a great future for Roma based on the current foundations we have."
