Conte: Players Were Fearful, and We Need to Improve Away Performance
Monday 15-12-2025
Antonio Conte, Napoli's coach, made candid remarks following his team's 1-0 loss to Udinese in the Italian league, admitting that his players were very anxious and extremely fearful during the match. The Italian coach also emphasized that the team needs to improve its away performance.

Conte said: "We didn't have any shots on target in the first half, and we could have made better use of our chances. We struggled at the start of the second half, and it was clear that some fear set in from that point onward."

He added: "Two goals were disallowed and a shot hit the crossbar at the start of the second half. We were very worried and scared, and we had to work hard. We must play well even in difficult moments, and we definitely need to manage situations better."

Conte continued: "We need to be better at managing these moments and face them with experience. We cannot lose courage or get overwhelmed by stress, and if you play that way, you risk conceding goals, which is exactly what happened."

He continued: "I have nothing negative to say about the players who are giving their all in this emergency situation. We need to be better at managing matches and showing a stronger character away from home. We are working on the psychological aspect and trying to find the right approach. We have great players here."

Regarding the injuries that have recently affected the team, Conte said: "I raised the alarm even when we were winning. At the start of the season, when you are competing in multiple tournaments, you need to build a ready team. So what do you do when the team is weakened by external factors?"

He added: "This year will not be easy for us. The important thing is to be united and work together to face the challenges. The entire club must stand together. We lost seven away matches, and we need to improve that a bit."
