Sporting Lisbon Blocks Barcelona's Path to Sign Inácio
Tuesday 16-12-2025
Portuguese defender Gonçalo Inácio has fallen out of Barcelona's interest after he decided to renew his contract with Sporting Lisbon until 2030, keeping his release clause at 60 million euros, according to the Spanish newspaper "Sport".

The player was one of the names closely followed by Barcelona's management in preparation for the next season, although he was not a top priority for coach Hans Flick.

The newspaper explains that Inácio, 26 years old, attracted the Catalan club's attention due to his remarkable development in international competitions. Barcelona monitored him in several matches, and reports from sporting director Deco were very positive. Although he was not the first choice on the wishlist, his contractual situation made him a good opportunity before circumstances changed with his renewal.

Despite the renewal, the player and his circle maintained the possibility of a future departure through the continuation of the release clause. However, Inácio prefers to stay at least one more season with Sporting Lisbon, with whom he has an excellent relationship with Barcelona.

According to the newspaper, Barcelona is studying several alternatives to strengthen the defensive line, including Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund defender, expected to leave in the summer due to not renewing his contract. However, the player prioritizes staying in the German league and is waiting for Bayern Munich's decision. If he moves to Spain, he would prefer Real Madrid, and Flick believes Schlotterbeck's style perfectly suits Barcelona's way of playing.

Meanwhile, negotiations are progressing with Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace defender, who enjoys consensus between the coaching staff and sporting management. Guehi's contract expires soon, making him an attractive option despite receiving offers from several English Premier League clubs. Bayern Munich is trying to move to sign him in January as a prelude to acquiring him for free in the summer. Real Madrid has also inquired about his status, and Barcelona considers Guehi could be an important strategic signing.
