Minister of Sports' Comment on Egypt's Exit from the Arab Cup
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports, commented on Egypt's exit from the Arab Cup.
The Jordanian national team defeated the Egyptian national team 3-0 in the final round of the group stage of the Arab Cup, leading to the Pharaohs' elimination from the tournament.
Ashraf Sobhi said during a phone interview on the program "Ala Mas'ouliyati" on "Sada El Balad" channel: "The senior national team needs focus, especially as we are approaching the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup."
He continued: "The World Cup draw placed Egypt in a relatively not difficult group."
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, emphasized that it will not be acceptable for the senior national team to be unsuitable for us and our style, as happened in the Arab Championship.
He added: "The team's performance was unacceptable, people were upset, and so were we. There has to be an explanation, and the Football Association must speak up. Even though I traveled to Qatar and told them to step up, there must always be another team ready at all times."
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy commented on Helmy Toulan's recent statements, in which he criticized the officials for not providing support, saying that there shouldn't be a lot of back-and-forth arguments at this time. He added that the Football Association is handling the matter, determining what is going on and what the future will look like, and that he regularly asks about the situation and what is needed.
