Al-Ahly Settles Mendy's File Before Heading to the Africa Cup of Nations
Officials of the Saudi club Al-Ahli have finalized their agreement with Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to extend his contract for two more seasons, allowing the experienced goalkeeper to continue his career with the team after his current contract ends this season.
Al-Riyadiyah newspaper reported that the negotiations between the two parties proceeded very smoothly, due to the mutual desire to continue the partnership, which expedited reaching a final agreement to renew for two seasons.
Mendy is expected to return to training within the next couple of days after the break granted to Al-Ahly players during the international break, in preparation to continue the team's journey in the Roshn League.
The Senegalese goalkeeper joined Al Ahly in the summer of 2023, coming from the English club Chelsea on a three-year contract, before the club decided to extend it due to his consistent performance.
Mendy has played 92 matches for Al-Ahli since his arrival, during which he conceded 94 goals and managed to keep a clean sheet in 39 games, making him one of the team's key defensive players.
The renewal decision reflects Al-Ahly's desire for stability in the goalkeeper position during the upcoming period, especially with the coaching staff relying on Mendy's experience in major matches and the team's competition in several tournaments.
