Slot: This is the reason Salah did not participate, and we have every reason to be optimistic

Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared in a press statement after the 3-3 draw against Leeds United in the fifteenth round of the Premier League at Elland Road.

The coach said: "This is not the first time we have dropped points, nor the first time we have conceded a goal in the last minute, nor the first time we have conceded from a set piece."

He added: "I believe every fan can imagine how the players feel in the locker room. Nine minutes of added time, then they score. It's not the first time. We are the only ones who are blamed."

He added about Ibrahima Konaté's play: "We can say that he tried to prevent the cross from coming in. If you want to call it a mistake, it’s a mistake that came from effort and trying. There was definitely contact. The player was already on his way to falling. But in situations like this, we have to blame ourselves."

And regarding Mohamed Salah not participating: "We were leading 2-0, then 3-2. At those moments, it was more about controlling the game, and we didn’t need a goal at that time. Usually, when we need a goal, like last week against Sunderland, I bring Mo on. But today, we needed different players like Wataru Endo because we had to maintain the lead."

He continued: "Mohamed Salah has given his all. We have to accept the situation we are living in. In the short term for Mo, he will go to the Africa Cup of Nations, but before that, we will face Inter Milan."

He concluded about Liverpool's season: "There are every reason to be optimistic. Perhaps we have only played two matches in which the opponent created more chances than us. But that is not what matters. What matters is scoring goals and not conceding them."
