Slot: No One Expected This Result, and This Is What We Must Do
Thursday 27-11-2025
Liverpool team coach Arne Slot appeared in a press statement after the loss against Eindhoven in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage, held at Anfield Stadium.

The coach said, "The emotions are very negative and disappointing. The way we conceded the first goal was tough. I want to stay positive about the players' reaction after falling behind 1-0. We got back into the rhythm of the game and had chances to take the lead 2-1. I don't think anyone expected us to lose 4-1."

Regarding Van Dijk's complaint: "He was lightly pushed, which caused him to lose his balance, so he raised his arm and there was a handball (Eindhoven penalty kick)."

He added: "After the break, we conceded a relatively early goal to make it 2-1. However, we had good chances to equalize at 2-2. About 10 or 15 minutes before the end, we conceded another goal. It's hard to accept that."

He emphasized: "After we conceded the first goal, I saw the reaction I wanted to see. The mentality that showed afterward is what I hoped the players would demonstrate. Even after it was 2-1, we kept trying to score the equalizer. The final result was 4-1, and this is a heavy loss."

He continued: "I liked our style of transitions during the first half. But it seemed that Hugo Ekitike was no longer able to move as he did in the first half, and that's why he couldn't apply the same pressure."

Salute concluded by saying: "The only way now is to keep going. We have to face the situation we're in and fight hard. The feeling I have is that after 45 minutes, you shouldn't expect the score to be 1-1, but that we should be ahead. The players' reaction is exactly what you would expect from a Liverpool player."
