Jaissle Reveals Background Behind Al-Ahli's Defeat to Sharjah
Thursday 27-11-2025
The German Matthias Jaissle, head coach of Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli club, reviewed the factors that led to his team's 1-0 loss to UAE's Sharjah in the fifth round of the AFC Champions League Elite. This was their first defeat after a streak of 22 unbeaten matches.

Yaisleh explained that his decision to involve a large number of players was aimed at gaining a broader technical perspective on the readiness of the team members. He emphasized that the focus was on winning, although the performance did not reach the desired level.

The German coach pointed out that luck did not favor his team during the match, despite the players' efforts, noting that rotation has become necessary given that they are playing a game every three days.

Yaislah mentioned that the upcoming match against Al-Qadisiyah in the quarterfinals of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, scheduled for next Friday, will be a tough test. However, he expressed confidence in all his players and their ability to handle the pressure of the games.

He recalled that Al-Ahli had defeated Al-Qadsiah a few days ago in the league with a score of 2-1, while they also overcame Al-Batin with a 3-0 victory in the King’s Cup round of 16, at a time when Al-Qadsiah secured a 3-1 win against Al-Hazem.

He concluded by emphasizing that Al-Ahli currently holds third place in Group B of the AFC Champions League Elite with 10 points, following their loss to Sharjah, which complicated the team's standings in the group.
