Van Dijk Explains the Loss to Nottingham
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk appeared in a press statement after the 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the twelfth round of the Premier League.
The Dutch defender said: "We concede very easy goals. They scored again from a set piece. You can ask whether the player was standing in front of Alisson or not, but the goal was counted, so the score became 1-0. We weren't good in the tackles, nor in the challenges, nor in the fighting spirit; we played very hastily. The situation is very difficult right now."
He added: "There was tension after we conceded the goal, but not before it. We tried to rush things, which is natural when you're going through a difficult period. We defended some balls before that, and in the end, we are going through a very tough moment. We can't get out of it just by talking about it. It requires a lot of hard work."
He continued: "It's a problem. Every player on the team must take responsibility as well. Football is a team game, and everyone must be accountable. We have to digest what happened and accept it, and work even harder. We have to keep going."
He emphasized: "Everyone feels disappointed, as they should, because the loss at Anfield against Nottingham Forest is, in my opinion, very bad. That’s the least I can say about it. The goals we conceded were very easy, and we all need to look at ourselves in the mirror. I have spent a long time at this club and we have been through many difficult situations. We will come back, but that won’t happen overnight. I’m not the type to give up, and we will keep working."
He concluded: "I cannot decide what the audience will do if they leave early. I know that the audiences have always been with us through thick and thin. They will be with us when we come out of this crisis, because we will come out of it."
