Kompany: Matches like the one against Paris are decided by small details
Vincent Kompany, the coach of Bayern Munich, praised the level of his team's match against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended with Bayern Munich winning 2-1 at the Parc des Princes, in the fourth round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Kompany confirmed that the match was crucial and depended on minute details, pointing to the strength of the opponent and the necessity of focus at every moment.
Kompany said: "This type of match is played on the edge; every match we play against Paris Saint-Germain so far is decided in these moments. Paris always plays with great intensity and under immense pressure, and so do we. The collective performance relies on individual skills, and without Upamecano winning duels, or Laimer fighting in midfield, it would be difficult to stay in such matches."
Kompany explained that Bayern's matches against Paris are always close: "Things are decided on the edge, as happened in the United States when we lost 2-0 to Paris in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup, and even when we won at home 1-0 in the group stage of the Champions League last season. The lesson is that facing two teams at this level can be amazing, but no one knows which direction it will end up in."
Regarding the mistake made by Luis Diaz and the injury suffered by Achraf Hakimi, Kompany said: "It was unintentional; the match was of a high level. When I heard about Hakimi's injury, I hoped it wouldn't be serious like what happened with Musiala against Paris, and that he would return quickly."
Kompany concluded his statements by highlighting the difficulty of handling matches at a high level: "It is a very fast sport, and it is difficult to avoid such moments. Facing teams like Paris Saint-Germain requires focus and collective discipline, and tactical work is what makes the difference in these tough matches."
