Van Dijk: Things Can Change Overnight, We Executed Our Plan Perfectly
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk appeared in press statements after the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League, in a match held at Anfield.
The Dutch defender said: "I think the team put in a great effort and hard work. They have won 14 out of 15 matches, and they have high quality. We know their strengths well, so we had to be precise in everything we did. I believe we executed our plan perfectly."
He added: "It's easy to say that now because we have won twice in a row, in a world full of chaos, you must keep calm and look at things from their correct perspective."
Regarding facing critics: "I live with players who may have been affected by it. If you lose a match for Liverpool - four or five matches - there are criticisms, and that's somewhat natural, sometimes it's exaggerated. I think the reason is that we live in a world full of platforms, where many people can say things, and it can be absorbed. Even former players who played at the highest level went through tough moments."
He emphasized: "I want to play for the team and the club and for everyone who supports us in good times and bad.
On keeping a clean sheet: "As you can see, Arsenal is performing brilliantly right now, and it depends on keeping a clean sheet and not conceding any chances. We have the ability to trouble any team on the counter-attack - it starts with defense. Today you saw the hard work."
He concluded: "We have to keep working. Sunday will be another tough day. We all know how things go in football - things can change overnight."
