Slot: I Didn't Expect This Question, and I'm Happy with the Team's Quality

Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Aston Villa in the tenth round of the English Premier League at Anfield.

The coach spoke about the style of play and building from the back: "Playing from the back is part of my philosophy, although sometimes it contradicts my beliefs, but I have won matches in the past when I had to change the style, like the match against Manchester City away, where it was necessary to play differently in the second half there."

He added: "I am always open to adapting according to the situation, but I don't see that we are suffering from conceding many chances or that we are too open defensively. Perhaps only in the matches against Crystal Palace and Brentford. In the rest of the matches, we deserved more than we got, and we did not give the opponents many chances."

He continued: "Even in the last match, although the team played together for the first time, we conceded only three dangerous chances, but unfortunately, they all turned into goals. For this reason, I don't see a need to change our philosophy entirely, but we must improve in defending our goal."

Regarding the upcoming matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City: "My team will now face opponents like City and Villa, who prefer to build from the back instead of long balls, but they are also very strong in this style. We saw Aston Villa successfully overcome City's high press several times, and in the end, they won the match from a set piece, which again highlights the importance of set pieces."

On the performance against Brentford and Crystal Palace: "Against Brentford, we performed excellently for 60 minutes, then the level dropped afterward. Against Crystal Palace, the situation was similar. What gives me confidence is the quality of our players and the number of chances we create. Sooner or later, this will lead to more goals."

He emphasized: "Perhaps some see my talk about things that need improvement as excuses, but I believe we just need to address certain issues, and there are many positives as well. The quality of the players and the number of opportunities from open play make us capable of competing in all competitions."

Regarding injuries and team depth: "We are not missing anything. I am very happy with the quality of the team and the policy the club follows. The only problem is that some players did not have a complete preparation period or suffered injuries, and when three or four players are absent, the number of options decreases significantly."

He continued to clarify: "Alexander Isak is a clear example; he is undergoing a preparation period during the season itself. If I don't play him, he won't be physically ready, and if he plays too much, there is a risk of him getting injured again. The same goes for Frimpong and Bradley, which is why I had to use Szoboszlai in this position sometimes."

Slot confirmed: "This is not an excuse; all teams suffer from injuries. Last season we had players fully ready from the start, and that is the difference now. But we have enough good players to play matches on Saturday, Tuesday, and Sunday; I just have to be cautious in using them."

He added: "Aston Villa is a great example that things can change quickly. They started the season poorly and then gradually improved, and now we are almost equal in points. This illustrates how difficult the Premier League is."

He concluded: "In many matches, we created more chances than the opponents but did not win, and this should not become a habit. Villa succeeded in breaking this habit, and we must do the same."

He finished regarding his contract renewal: "I honestly didn't expect this question. My full focus now is on getting Liverpool back on the winning path. If there are negotiations regarding the contract, we are not talking about them publicly. The most important thing is to start winning again; that is all that occupies me right now."
