The Greek club Panathinaikos officially announced its contract with Spanish coach Rafael Benitez, the former coach of Celta Vigo, without revealing the duration of the contract.

Benitez is the third coach to take charge of Panathinaikos this season after Portuguese Rui Vitoria and Greek Christos Kontis, in an effort to bring the team back to winning ways after its recent negative results.

The Spanish coach has an illustrious coaching career, having led major clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Napoli, Everton, and Newcastle United, along with previous experience in the Chinese league.

Benitez's most notable achievement in his career is winning the UEFA Champions League in 2005 with Liverpool after the historic victory over Italian Milan.

Panathinaikos is struggling this season in the Greek league, having only achieved two victories so far, and was eliminated from the Champions League in the preliminary rounds, currently sitting in seventh place with 9 points.
