Virgil van Dijk, the defender for Liverpool, spoke in a press statement after the 5-1 victory over Frankfurt in the third round of the Champions League.

Van Dijk said: "I don't know if this win is a message, but it's definitely something we can build on."

He added: "I've been in the football world for a long time, so I don't feel overly comfortable. It's natural to feel disappointed after recent defeats, but we have to deal with that, stay united, and keep working hard."

He continued: "We won today, and now we have to be ready for the match against Brentford on Saturday. We should not get carried away by the negative talks around us. The only way to succeed is to focus on the next task."

He concluded by saying: "We have to keep going and not get distracted by everything that is said off the pitch."
