Midfielder Joni Cardoso has returned to Atletico Madrid's training sessions after a long absence due to injury, but the coaching and medical staff decided to handle his return with extreme caution, according to Spanish newspaper "AS".

The newspaper clarified that Cardoso, who missed Atletico's match against Liverpool in the Champions League, as well as the Madrid derby against Real Madrid, recently joined the team's training after the break granted by coach Diego Simeone to the players.

The report indicated that the player was scheduled to leave the training session before its conclusion as part of his gradual return plan, but he had to end the session early after receiving a blow to his previously injured ankle, prompting the medical staff to take further precautions to avoid any exacerbation of his condition.

The report confirmed that the injury does not appear to be serious, but the club does not want to risk the player who has not participated in any match since August 30, while both Jose Maria Gimenez and Thiago Almada participated in the training without issues.
