Tonali: We Represent Italy, and This Victory is Good for Our Confidence
Sandro Tonali, star of the Italian national team, expressed his satisfaction after his country's 3-1 victory over Estonia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, confirming that the team is beginning to regain its confidence and ability to control the game on the field.
Tonali said: "This victory is good for our confidence, which we are starting to gradually regain. We controlled the ball comfortably, even in the last ten minutes when Estonia pressed with all their might. We respected the opponent, but we played our way and showed our desire to come back with all the points."
The goals for the Italian team came from Moise Kean, who opened the scoring before suffering an ankle injury, followed by Retegui, who scored the second goal after missing a penalty, and finally, young Francesco Pio Esposito, who netted his first international goal.
Tonali added while praising his young teammate: "Esposito deserves this goal; he has given his all since joining the national team. The players in the locker room applauded him because he has the talent and the right attitude. We played with confidence and courage for the entire 90 minutes."
Regarding his partnership in midfield with Nicolo Barella, Tonali said: "We understand each other well on and off the field. Each of us covers for the other. We lack neither desire nor effort, and that makes things simple between us."
The Newcastle player concluded his remarks by saying: "We have improved a lot recently, but we need to believe more in our abilities and show greater courage. We represent Italy on the field, so we must be the first to have confidence in ourselves."
