Yurčić: From Falling to Al-Batin to Leading Pyramids Against Al-Ahli in Jeddah
Tuesday 23-09-2025
The Croatian Krunoslav Yurčić recalls his memories on Saudi pitches as he leads Egyptian Pyramids in a match against Saudi Al-Ahli at the "Al-Inma" stadium in Jeddah, in an anticipated match as part of the Club World Cup on Tuesday evening.

The veteran coach previously appeared with Al-Nassr during the 2017-2018 season, where he took over after the dismissal of Gustavo Quinteros, managing to lead the team to victory in the "Classico" 3-1 against Al-Ittihad in the 24th round of the league.

His experiences were not limited to clubs, as Yurčić was tasked with temporarily leading the Saudi national team in the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait, where he participated with a youthful lineup that achieved a victory over the host team before being eliminated from the group stage.

The Croatian coach's journey with Al-Nassr was not without surprises, as he suffered two defeats against Al-Batin, the first being a 3-0 loss in the league, followed by a 0-1 loss in the King’s Cup quarter-finals, before the team regained its balance and achieved significant victories later on.

Yurčić concluded his journey with "Al-Nassr" with only eight matches, ending in a draw with Al-Fateh, prompting the club to decide to bring back Uruguayan coach José Carrillo before the final round, in preparation for the new season at that time.

The 55-year-old coach continues his journey with Pyramids since February 2024, leading them to win the African Champions League last June, in addition to the Egypt Cup the season before last, benefiting from a long experience with nine teams including Dinamo Zagreb and Al-Nassr UAE.

His career as a player is equally valuable, as he represented the Croatian national team in the 1998 World Cup in France and won a bronze medal, before starting his coaching career in 2005 and winning five titles with Dinamo Zagreb.
