Grapinberch: I Enjoy Greater Freedom in Liverpool
Dutch midfielder Ryan Grapinberch expressed his great happiness after his impressive performance in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield, as part of the Premier League competition.
Grapinberch said: "I am very happy with the goal; last season I didn't score much, so I was pleased to score in the Merseyside derby."
He added about the way he scored: "We know that if the ball is with Mohamed Salah, he has a great pass. I saw the space behind the defense and made my run, then did what I had to do."
He continued about the winning streak: "I am very happy to win against Atletico Madrid and then Everton. We played three matches in seven days; it’s tough in England, but we prepared well and got the three points."
Regarding the difficulty of the second half against Everton, he explained: "The goal we conceded shouldn't have happened. After they scored to reduce the deficit, they pressed a lot, and we dropped back a bit and relied on counterattacks. We had chances to finish the game, but we didn't take them, and that's why things became harder."
He also talked about his development this season, saying: "The coach gives me confidence; we have greater freedom in midfield. Last season, I only played as a defensive midfielder, but now I can move forward, and that reflects my strength. I am happy with that and with the goal."
On the strengths of coach Arne Slot, he said: "He is very clear and says what he thinks directly, and his tactical side is very distinctive."
Grapinberch pointed to the strength of the current group: "We have a good team and have signed some outstanding players. It’s not just about the starting lineup, but about the team as a whole. We are like a family and push each other. Hugo scored today, then Isaac came and gave his all; I am very happy with the team."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "Last season, I hardly scored, so this season I want more goals and assists. Winning the Merseyside derby is great, and we are now at the top of the league. I am very happy, and I will start the recovery phase as we continue our journey on Tuesday."
