Tebas: The English Premier League is on the verge of collapse despite rising revenues
Javier Tebas, the president of the Spanish league, expressed his concern about the financial situation of the English Premier League, pointing out that rising revenues do not mean sustainability, and that it is heading towards a losing system, which was clearly evident in the last summer transfer market.
Tebas said: "The English league insists on that, it is losing despite high revenues, and it represents a country richer than us, yet the deficit continues, this will have effects on the rest of Europe regarding inflation."
He added: "I am not talking about investment, but about destruction, we are just like the German league, we still have more titles than them, and we continue to progress in competitions, there is no need to worry."
He continued: "This is the usual summer song, where it is said that they outperform us, but they outperform us in terms of debt and capital destruction, not in the sustainability of the competition or the quality of players."
The president of the Spanish league confirmed: "Lewandowski said that the English league pays huge amounts to players who have played 10 matches and scored only 6 goals, does this give the league more value? We are striving to win the Ballon d'Or."
Regarding the transfers in the English league, he said: "Rodri was an exception in recent years, there are many transfers, but they cannot attract big stars, I am still confident, we have more European titles, there is no need to worry."
Tebas added: "If the gap increases due to increased trading volume within the normal rate, this does not raise concerns, but the existence of an independent regulatory body in England to oversee the financial affairs of clubs shows that they are trying to control something, while in Spain clubs are able to arbitrate and organize themselves."
He concluded by saying: "English football will be more regulated, and they will continue to spend because their size is larger, but they will not be able to continue in this losing system, losing one billion pounds annually is not a sustainable option."
