Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool's defender, appeared in press statements after the 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the first round of the Champions League group stage.

Van Dijk said: "We kept trying, and we were pressing for the third goal. But we conceded the equalizer from a ball that deflected significantly, and that wasn't great. Nevertheless, we found our way again, and we were dangerous on set pieces. The opponent was very aggressive, but I am happy that I scored the winning goal."

The Dutch defender continued: "They are a team that never gives up, and they have high-quality players who can punish you if you are not present at the right moment. They punished us before the break, and after that, we tried again to score the third. Their equalizing goal gave them extra confidence, but we kept fighting and showed the resilience we have had for years, and it was another great European night here at Anfield."

Regarding Liverpool's constant ability to find solutions, he concluded: "I think we have shown that many times; we are always able to find a way. Today, I was the lucky one to score the winning goal, and we are now looking forward to moving on."
