Tuchel: We Deserved This Result, and I Am Satisfied with the Performance
England's coach Thomas Tuchel expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his team during the 2-0 victory over Andorra in the first round of the European qualifiers for the World Cup.
Tuchel said in his statements to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I loved the performance. It was a good and solid performance against a team that relies on defensive compactness. The second goal came late, which prevented us from playing completely freely and scoring more goals. We created many opportunities but did not capitalize on them."
He added: "We waited a long time to score the second goal, and after the substitutions, we gained good energy and scored the goal that practically ended the match. Overall, I am completely satisfied with the effort and mentality, and the performance was much better than last June. The fair result would have been 4-0 or 5-0."
Regarding Elliott Anderson's first appearance, Tuchel said: "This was his test. We wanted to try all options before facing Serbia, so we said let's give him the opportunity today. Giving him the chance to participate in Belgrade might be unfair due to the emotional atmosphere there. He performed excellently overall."
