Al-Nassr Targets Goalkeeper Diogo Costa from Porto
Al-Nassr has intensified its efforts to sign a world-class goalkeeper, as the goalkeeping position has become a recurring issue for Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, especially after excluding Brazilian goalkeeper Bento due to his impactful mistakes, relying solely on Nawaf Al-Aqidi.
According to the Portuguese newspaper "A Bola," Al-Nassr has placed Diogo Costa, Porto's first-choice goalkeeper and the Portuguese national team, at the top of its priorities before the summer transfer window closes, with the intention of activating the buyout clause in his contract, estimated at 75 million euros.
Al-Nassr's management believes that the buyout clause option is the quickest way to finalize the deal, given the impossibility of opening traditional negotiations after the registration period in Europe has closed, making direct action the only way to sign the distinguished goalkeeper.
Costa, born in 1999, is considered one of the top European goalkeepers, having risen to Porto's first team in 2019, and since then has participated in over 200 matches, winning the Portuguese league title twice, and is known for his high ability to save penalty kicks.
The Portuguese goalkeeper also caught attention during his key participation with his national team in the Euro 2024 tournament, where he delivered strong performances that reinforced his status as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe despite his young age.
It is worth noting that Costa has attracted interest from several European clubs, most notably Manchester United in England as a potential replacement for Onana, and Aston Villa before signing Belgian Sin Lamens, in addition to Real Madrid, which has him among its options post-Courtois, while Al-Hilal Saudi Arabia has only monitored him without entering into serious negotiations.
