Al-Trabelsi Reveals the Roadmap to the 2026 World Cup
Saturday 30-08-2025
Sami Al-Trabelsi, the coach of the Tunisian national football team, hopes that next September will be decisive in the journey of the Eagles of Carthage towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, during the matches of the seventh and eighth rounds of Group 8 qualifiers, where the Tunisian team will face Liberia on September 4 at the Hamadi Akari Stadium in Rades, before traveling to Malabo to meet Equatorial Guinea on the 8th of the same month.

During a press conference held today at the headquarters of the Tunisian Football Federation, Al-Trabelsi explained that the work is being carried out according to a new strategy in coordination with the sports director Ziad Al-Jaziri and the technical director Munther Al-Kabeer, aimed at attracting Tunisian players active in various European leagues, especially young talents under the age of 20, through a phased plan to prepare them for the national team.

The national coach also revealed the formation of a reserve team overseen by Abdul Hai Ben Sultan and Ayman Al-Balbouli, which will be Tunisia's bet in the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, with the possibility of relying on it as a reservoir to strengthen the first team, also in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Al-Trabelsi pointed out that the recent friendly experience against Morocco highlighted the need for more skilled players and a faster playing rhythm, which explains the call-up for player Ismail Al-Gharbi, who plays for Braga in Portugal, confirming that he will be one of the future cornerstones of the team.

He added that all working conditions are currently available, but he emphasized the necessity for the national team to have its own training center like other major teams.

It is noteworthy that the Tunisian team is at the top of Group 8 with 16 points, ahead of Namibia (12 points), followed by Liberia (10 points), and Equatorial Guinea (7 points), while Malawi is fifth (6 points) and Sao Tome is last without any points.
