Napoli is preparing to face Sassuolo on Saturday evening, as part of the first round of the Italian league for the 2025/2026 season, in a match where the defending champions aim for a strong start under the leadership of coach Antonio Conte.

During the press conference held on Friday, Conte addressed several issues, most notably the absence of striker Romelu Lukaku due to injury, the team's ambitions in the new season, as well as tactical aspects and the transfer market.

Conte said: "Lukaku's injury is very impactful, as he was a very important player in our plan. We know that such matters are possible during the season, whether injuries or movements in the transfer market."

He added: "The players showed last season their ability to adapt to all circumstances; there is no room for complaints, rather we must seek solutions. I have not spoken to them about Lukaku's injury, as these matters are part of the game, and we must focus on working to highlight the abilities of other players."

Regarding Napoli's readiness, he continued: "This team does not need to repeat what it did last season, as it includes players who are responsible and want to develop continuously. What we achieved was historic, and Napoli has never won two consecutive titles before."

He continued: "We must not forget that we finished the season before last in tenth place. We win and lose together, and we must maintain the collective spirit because the competition this season will be fierce."

The Italian coach spoke about the tactical side, explaining: "We know well that the 4/3/3 formation is the most suitable for this team, and we have made reinforcements that align with this tactical scheme, but there are other options we can explore."

He clarified: "The coach must find suitable solutions without changing the nature of the players. Currently, we have only one striker, so we must start thinking about alternative solutions."

Regarding Napoli's position as a title contender, Conte said: "As long as we wear a shirt bearing the scudetto logo, we are among the candidates, even if we lose some elements."

He continued: "What we achieved last season was great, and we should not associate pressure solely with winning. We win and lose together, and it is not right for the fans to be with us only during victories."

He concluded his statements by saying: "I do not like grand speeches; it is better to focus on work, otherwise, we will repeat what happened two years ago. We need positive pressure and to remain united; these players have already made history by winning two titles in three seasons."
